Release Your Feet! Free Video: Foot Fascial Release

Our feet are our base; literally what we stand on. They are responsible for stability, balance, grip, shock absorption and the strength to walk and run. The sole of each foot has over 7,000 nerve endings and one quarter of all the bones in the human body can be found in the feet. They are many times, though, the most overlooked and forgotten about body parts, yet the health of our feet is so important to the function of the rest of our body. When the bones in our feet are out of alignment or the fascia is restricted it directly affects how well the rest of our body is able to move.

Rolling out the bottoms of your feet is necessary for everyone, not just athletes or runners. If you walk often, wear restrictive shoes, or generally just want your flexibility to be better you will find benefit in rolling out your feet. It doesn’t take long, and I typically recommend for clients to leave a small ball in their bathrooms and do it while they brush their teeth in the morning or get ready for work.

The video below is a modified sequence I learned at a weeklong training with Madeline Black. This routine specifically targets areas where fascia can get stuck and help to realign the bones in your feet. You don’t need to purchase a fancy ball for this, a 38-48mm bouncy ball purchased on Amazon or golf ball will work.
